Name: Casey Novak

Age: 30

Family/Educational: Casey comes from a large family; she has three older brothers and one who is ten years younger than she. Her father, Ted, is a Vietnam Vet who became a high school baseball coach. He, moreso than Casey's mother, devoted a lot of time and energy to his children. He taught all of them, including Casey, to handle guns; he also taught all of them to play ball. Tanner Novak, Casey's mother, encouraged Casey to choose a solid career over playing softball; however, she had little to do with Casey's choice of law school. Casey's father and her oldest brother, Bear (a pro baseball player before a shoulder injury) were incredibly disappointed when Casey announced her decision to give up the persuit of playing Olympic softball. When Casey's twin brothers graduated college, they went on a backpacking tour of Europe. Casey insisted that she be allowed to go, and much to her brothers' dismay, her parents allowed it. As a result, Casey tramped all over Europe with a bunch of older guys the summer before she entered NYU. Once in college, she decided to major in Philosophy on something of a whim, or mainly because she was concentrating on softball. At her mother's urging, she minored in law and society. In her junior year, Casey interned under Liz Donnelly at the DA's office. After graduation, she worked her way through Cornell law school by waitressing; she graduated with a dual degree--JD and MA in philosophy. She then clerked with Judge Mary Clark. Casey worked as an ADA for White Collar Crimes before being transferred to SVU cases. She was reluctant to continue in the job at first, but she eventually found her own place.

Casey is very close to her four brothers: Bear, Theo and Drew (the twins), and particularly her younger brother, Ash. She was instrumental in encouraging him to persue is dream of becoming a professional cellist. Casey even helped pay for lessons at Juliard while he was in high school. One of her proudest moments was when he was admitted as an undergraduate student there.

Shortly after she got the job at the DA's office, Casey began a relationship with Elizabeth Donnelly. The two were off and on for some years, including when Casey was transferred to SVU cases. Casey and Liz decided to make a long term commitment, which involved Casey moving into Liz's brownstone.

Personality--likes/dislikes: Casey loves coffee. She has been an avid softball player since she was a child; now she plays every Saturday morning. She also plays for the DA's office when they have games against the NYPD. Casey rides her bike to work occasionally; though, she does it for the excercise--she is not an avid environmentalist. She butts heads with the DA and members of the SVU squad occasionally. She is very passionate, and that can turn into a tempter sometimes. Casey is very good at identifying with the victoms. She is sympathetic, but she does not let that affect her edge. For the most part, Casey is very easygoing.

Traits, Weaknesses, Quirks: Casey can be quick to emotion sometimes; she can become too involved to the point of anger when things aren't going right. She is incredibly stubborn, having subpoenaed Donald Rumsfeld in a particularly frustrating case. As for personal quirks, Casey tends to cross her arms and squint her eyes when she is suspicious or thinking about something. She has no qualms with going after a victim in the courtroom if it serves her purpose; however, she can be incredibly compassionate with victims. Casey tilts her head and purses her lips a lot. Also, her fashion sense is questionable at times.
